There are opportunities for everyone; it’s not all about recycling and sitting at a desk. Whether you have fifteen minutes or 10 hours, we’d like to hear from you. Your time, energy and ideas are always appreciated. We do not ask you to work set hours or times, unless you would like to be part of our positive team.

We’re very flexible and can sometimes fit our days with volunteer availability.

Opportunities include, but are by no means limited to:-

• Being part of the A1 Steering Group/Management Team

• Keeping the workshop tidy; re-stocking and placing collected equipment in alphabetical order

• Helping out as a fund raiser and sorting equipment, helping to refurbish products at our workshop

• Help with marketing surveys and grant applications forms in Exeter, Devon

• Being a collections co-ordinator and supporting our clients in the local area

• Designing new flyers for A1 Positive’s newsletters and events

• The publicity and fund raising for new events for A1 Positive Recycling

• Packing and sending boxes to our partner charities in the Exeter and Devon area

• Help with creating our fact based news stories for the A1 News Channel site / PR

• Drivers Mate for deliveries and collections in and around Exeter and Devon

A social enterprise based in Exeter is looking for practical-hands-on-help and support to manage and run a pilot project to help raise funds to establish an alternative technology education centre for the South West of England. (The first of it’s kind in the UK)

A1 Positive Recycling Project and Carpet Magic are part of the not-for-profit social enterprise, that wants to build up a positive management team in Exeter, Devon to help lead the future development of the social enterprise.

The Project aims to reduce the local carbon footprint for our current and new client base throughout Exeter and Devon under the producer responsibility 1990 Waste legislation.

Neil said the planned alternative technology education centre will be aimed at training, educating and empowering adults and people with minor learning difficulties and people under NEETS.

He said he was looking for positive dynamic and committed individuals who want an opportunity to be part of a local steering group, Neil said they’re looking for people who have practical-hands-on-skills to support the community project to help manage and run pilot project’s throughout Exeter and Devon with A1 Positive Recycling Project Ltd / Carpet Magic based in Exeter, Devon. “Help Save The Environment to Save The World”

There are two types of partnership as follows:

Informal partners are those who help with the working up of A1 Positive Recycling and may be involved in the delivery (e.g. members of a project steering group, or informal advisors) Such partners may be drawn from the voluntary, statutory or commercial sector, where mutual objectives are being met, or the specific partner has a mission to support A1 Positives community and management groups.

Formal Partners are partnership organisations who are working directly with A1 Positive Recycling to deliver and co-manage the project. Such partners may be drawn from the voluntary, statutory or commercial sector. In this case there will be an identifiable contribution in terms of service delivery management. Some of these contributions may attract remuneration for services, e.g. bookkeeping, payroll, administration and management, and service delivery.

However, it would be expected that such services would be provided on a not-for-profit and voluntary basis.

Hello, I am the Founder of a non-profit social enterprise called A1 Positive Recycling Project Ltd who aim to cut the local carbon footprint in Devon through local recycling of working IT equipment and Mobile Phones throughout Devon.

We are looking for positive people with practical-hands-on-Skills to become part of our steering group in Exeter, Devon, people with skills in Project Management, Research, Fund Raising/grant’s officer, Book Keeper, PR/PA officer, HR Officer, DT Publisher/ Web designer, Administrator/ Clerical assistant. A New Eco-Friendly Project for EXETER WILL SOON BE A REALITY, The aim is to gain Local Community practical-hands-on-support and gain the use of an empty building in Exeter, Devon.

How A1 P.R.P Ltd intend to recruit a Management Team, how this will Work

The not-for-profit will be governed by a Board of Members which meets on a regular basis and makes decisions on the policies and direction of the Social Enterprise organisation.

A1 P.R.P Ltd changed company structure in March 2003 from a Limited Company to a Company Limited by Guarantee 05591818. A1 P.R.P Ltd became registered in November 2005. (There will also be subcommittees that will meet with varying frequency)

The Board is currently made up from 2 – 13 members, each serving for 3 years. One third of the Management team will stand down each year (though individuals may stand for re-election).

Nominations for the Board will be made once a year before the AGM. All members will be informed by post or electronic mail with the opportunity to stand for nomination they must then complete a nominations form and return it by the deadline detailed on the letter.

A1 Positive Recycling/Carpet Magic requires all members to sign a declaration of interests.

General Duties

  • Attendance at between 4 and 6 full Board meetings per annum, plus other meetings as necessary.
  • Participation in any sub-committee meetings as appropriate
  • Participation in strategic planning and decision making requiring an understanding of the broad issues facing the community sustainable waste management environmental sector and work experience locally.
  • Ensuring that the A1 P.R.P/Carpet Magic is a well-managed organisation which complies with the law and strives towards positive opportunities leading to employment and best practice.

General Responsibilities

  • Management Board must exercise their skill and care commensurate with their skills and experience.
  • When acting as a Member they must put the interests of the A1 P.R.P Ltd/Carpet Magic first even when these might conflict with their own interests or those of some other person or organisation they have an interest in.
  • A Management member must disclose interests in meetings and probably withdraw where conflict arises when decisions are being debated or made.
  • A Management member must be clear about when they are acting as an individual person and when they are representing the A1 P.R.P. Ltd They certainly must not allow people to think that they are talking as an individual when they are talking as a representative of A1 Positive Recycling Project Ltd/Carpet Magic.

Responsibilities Towards the membership

  • Ensuring that there is good information flow empowering members to participate in policy development.
  • Quality arrangements for Management Board of Members and General Meetings

Responsibilities: Towards Funders

Ensure that contracts are fulfilled. Usually including:

Disqualification for nomination:
In order to be eligible for the Executive Committee of A1 P.R.P/Carpet Magic, members must:
not have been disqualified from acting a s a company director or a charity trustee,
not be an undischarged bankrupt,
not have been involved in the management of an Entrust registered Environmental Body which has been forcibly revoked,
have not been convicted of an indictable offence,
be over 18 years old.

A social enterprise project in Exeter is looking for support to establish an alternative technology eduction centre for the South West.

A1 Positive Recycling Project, which is a non-profit enterprise, wants to build up a positive management team to help lead the future development of the project.

It is also hoping to find space in a vacant city centre property as a base for the project.

Neil Wintrip is the CEO and director for A1 which he started 15 years ago as an IT technician upgrading and repairing computers and providing environmental cleaning services. A1 is now specialising in local data destruction, computer and mobile phone recycling, ink and toner cartridge sales and recycling, The Project aim’s to reduce the Co2 carbon footprint for it’s client base in Exeter.

In May 2005 Neil received an Un Ltd level 1 Millennium award and a Co-op Community Dividend grant.

Neil said the planned alternative technology education centre would be aimed at training, educating and empowering adults with learning difficulties.

He said he was looking for dynamic and committed individuals who could offer practical hands-on support and sound business or community advice to help run a pilot project and to become part of the management board on the A1 management team in Exeter.

A1 make a small charge to cover insurance, transport, recycling, refurbishment and running cost. A1 is a fully licensed and insured computer refurbish er in accordance with the duty of care waste and the electrical, electronic legislation. A1 have workshop premises located in Exeter, Devon.

New Changes mean that ink and toner printer cartridges are only collected from customers who currently purchase new ink or toner cartridges direct from A1 Positive Recycling Project.

Where possible, damaged items are salvaged for parts ones that have passed the A1 quality checks are then separated based on the make, model and condition they are in, for appropriate refurbishment. Once sorted and segregated they are then packaged ready for re-manufacturing and processing to the ISO 9001/14001 standard in the UK.
